£3/4 MILLION REFURBISHMENT GIVES NEW LOOK TO BUCKERELL LODGE HOTEL, EXETER
Buckerell Lodge Hotel has recently completed a £3/4 million facelift on all their public areas as well as guests’ bedrooms, resulting in the creation of new jobs including the role of a dedicated Sales Manager in the form of Bruce Harvey.
Quote from Tony Cannon, General Manager:
“Exeter is developing rapidly and we felt we needed to respond to this economic growth, particularly as we are in an ideal position being just one mile from the heart of the City, yet enclosed in beautiful and secluded gardens with a large and safe car park. Although part of an established independently owned hotel group we have a flexible approach and actively respond to local needs. The hotel’s location and amenities appeal to a large number of sectors, including weddings, conferences, the business community, and visitors to our wonderful city.”
As a result of the hotel refurbishment the number of bedrooms has now increased to 54. The 21 luxurious Executive Bedrooms have been designed with attention to detail with the interior designer using beautiful and plush fabrics creating a fresh, contemporary look and working closely with artists for the specially commissioned artworks. In 10 of the bedrooms the artworks have been based around the Exeter Riddles, which arrived today (17/2/06) amidst great excitement.
The Ensuites each have power showers as well as modern fixtures and fittings, and the bedroom suites boast the latest technology including wall mounted flat screens, laptop safes with integral power points to recharge laptops, plus a designated work area for the business traveller. There is a further programme to enhance standard rooms in keeping with the hotel’s updated image, which is due to be completed over the next couple of months. An open day launch is planned for Thursday 11 May as a showcase for the Hotel’s new look and to promote the recently introduced food menus by the Head Chef, which have a much more contemporary feel.
Quote from Tony Cannon, General Manager:
“We actively encourage local non-residents to enjoy our facilities and to sample our excellent food which is cooked to order and served all day. Bookings are already going well for our Mother’s Day lunch, which includes a complimentary gift for each Mum. It’s just our way of saying thank-you”
The Buckerell Lodge refurbishment programme also included the 6 conference rooms with added technological advancements in the form of plasma screens, Wifi and climate control. The smaller conference rooms also lend themselves to private dining.

NOTES FOR EDITORS:
In the mid 19th century the Veitch family who ran it as a nursery owned the land, and it has always been known as The Buckerell Lodge. The family ran it as a nursery with the original grounds covering a large area including the development now known as Gras Lawn. The family sent out nurserymen as explorers who brought back more than 750 exotic species into the country. The famous towering Giant Redwood at the hotel entrance was one the first to be introduced in this country from the USA and is now forms part of the hotel’s logo as depicted on the new signage erected this month. There are over 50 listed trees in the gardens.
The Buckerell Lodge Hotel holds a wedding licence and is a popular venue for weddings with its 4 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and excellent culinary reputation.
Buckerell Lodge Hotel is part of the folio group, which is independently owned. The collection of well established 3 and 4 star hotels, are all in good locations across the country, and each uniquely different.
