THE DAY OF REST JUST GOT BETTER!
What do Sundays conjure up for you? For me it is chilling with the papers, sharing a good old Sunday roast and a bottle of fine wine with friends and then putting my feet up before settling down to watch a good film. The great thing is that you can do all these things at the amber Rooms in Sidwell Street, Exeter and guess what? There’s no washing up! They were recently granted a cinema licence and customers enjoy a ‘home from home’ atmosphere with crackling open fires and comfy leather sofas. After watching a classic film or two, why not stay on for an evening of cocktails and live jazz. Alternatively, you can see quirkier movies later on Tuesday evenings.
The delicious roasts, as with all the food at the amber Rooms is carefully prepared by Head Chef Dave Westwood from locally sourced ingredients. “Dave is passionate about food and he always has a real stock pot bubbling away,” said owner Iain Smith. The amber Rooms boast a gourmet menu of Aberdeen Angus steaks, award winning ‘Dartmoor Kitchen’ pies together with some imaginative vegetarian dishes. Wash this down with some of the finest nectar from their extensive wine list and it’s a recipe for success.
As well as live music downstairs, the amber Rooms also has a fully air-conditioned Night Club and Cocktail Lounge, with the latter also available for private hire with the option of in-house catering.
They also offer an outside catering and bar service providing beer, wine, spirits and even cocktails with trained staff entertaining the guests with their shaker skills in the style of Tom Cruise from the film ‘Cocktail’!
The amber Rooms are conveniently located in the City Centre for local companies who utilise the premises to have business meetings. Whether you prefer the informal atmosphere of having coffee in the downstairs Lounge Bar or a full team meeting in the private function room, you have the added advantage of wireless free connection throughout the building and for this added service there is no charge!
Entrepreneurial co-owners Iain Smith and Terri Robinson are constantly looking at ways to add value for existing customers as well as to attract new ones, and with this in mind, they have recently applied for a ‘pavement licence’ from Exeter City Council. “We want to create a café culture in the heart of the City.” Said Iain excitedly. Is there no stopping them? Let’s hope they get the green light and it’s go, go, go for the amber Rooms!
