Quote from Tony Cannon, General Manager:
“Exeter has a thriving business community, which is developing rapidly. We wanted to respond to this economic growth, providing state of the art conferencing facilities and invest funds in the hotel to service the increased needs of local companies and people. The hotel is in an ideal position just one mile from the heart of the City, yet enclosed in beautiful and secluded gardens with a large and safe car park. The Buckerell Lodge is part of the established, independently owned Folio group, and we pride ourselves on our flexible approach with the hotel’s amenities appealing to a large number of sectors, including conferencing, the business community, weddings and visitors to our wonderful city.”
The hotel will showcase its renovations to local businesses at a drinks and canapés reception to be held on Thursday 8 June from 5 – 7.30 pm. Guests will enjoy an informal networking opportunity with added entertainment in the form of Mark Leveridge Magician, a chocolate fountain and guided tours around the hotel. There will also be a free business card draw with not one, but two prizes – a weekend for 2 Bed & Breakfast at the Makeney Hall Hotel in Derby and a 2nd prize of a bottle of champagne. The evening will culminate in a presentation by Tina Sibley of Discovery on “The Power of Influence”. (Please see Editors Notes).

History of the hotel:
In the mid 19th century the Veitch family who ran it as a nursery owned the land, and it has always been known as The Buckerell Lodge. The family ran it as a nursery with the original grounds covering a large area including the development now known as Gras Lawn. The family sent out nurserymen as explorers who brought back more than 750 exotic species into the country. The famous towering Giant Redwood at the hotel entrance was one the first to be introduced in this country from the USA and is now forms part of the hotel’s logo as depicted on the new signage erected this month. There are over 50 listed trees in the gardens.
