  • Include the date with FOR IMMEDIATE USE underneath - unless under embargo
  • Use a simple headline

 

  • Use double-spacing

 

  • TRY TO 'angle' the information to suit the medium

 

  • Put the key points in the first paragraph. It’s important to include significant names

 

  • USE FACTUAL, moderate language. You’re not writing an advert

 

  • You can, however, inject some enthusiasm by including a quotation. The person must be identified and you have to have their permission

 

  • Put further significant information in the second paragraph

 

  • Print ENDS at the end of your release, but then add contact details

 

  • Background information should be under Notes to Editors
  • Remember that many journalists work unsocial hours, and/or are freelancers, so make yourself accessible
