Plymouth Architects host annual Summer Party at award-winning Marine Station project

Multi-award winning architects HLM, hosted their annual summer party at the Marine Station based at Coxside. A landmark refurbishment, and new build £4.91m development, the Marine Station serves the base for the university’s marine expeditionary work, and an exceptional teaching and research facility, with classrooms extending out into the natural environment.
Representing 3000 staff, researchers and students, Plymouth University’s Marine Institute is the first and largest such institute in the UK. They provide the external portal to an extensive pool of world-leading experts, enabling them to understand the relationship between the way we live, the seas that surround us and the development of sustainable policy solutions. HLM completed the works on the state-of-the-art facilities in 2014, which won the ‘Commercial Project of the Year with a value of under £5m’ at the 2015 Michelmores Property Awards. It was the perfect showcase for the dynamic practice’s summer event.
Ajay Sharma, Director of HLM Plymouth, gave an opening address to talk about how the Plymouth Office based at Mills Bakery, has grown to a team of 15 over the last seven years. He also gave an overview of the various projects they are currently working on with major local clients, including; universities, schools, MoD and Plymouth Science Park.
100 guests including; HLM clients, fellow professionals, associates and friends, took advantage of the evening sunshine by mingling and networking on the terrace, overlooking the glorious shores of Plymouth Sound. The guests enjoyed alfresco dining with sumptuous chicken, vegetarian and seafood paellas prepared by Hermanos Paella, complemented by locally produced wines supplied from Le Vignoble. Live entertainment was provided by local talent ‘The Busketeers’, a three-piece band and a charity raffle raised £300 for ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ to help protect beaches.
